GV Loves Cheek Keep
Google Voice voicemail transcription of a message from a friend. Yes, there are some funny parts, like "So yeah, we don't play you. We put it in." But for every comically bad transcription error, there's one where you have to wonder "how'd it actually catch that?" For example, the "birthday party" in this message. It barely even sounds like birthday party. Granted, he didn't know that he was going to get transcribed by a robot, he was speaking like a regular Hoosier, but when you really enunciate, this thing is freakishly on. Welcome to the future. Sort of.

The great Rock n’ Bowl t-shirt coincidence of 2010.
I just noticed that the apostrophes are on different sides of the “n” though. Must be two different places.

The Alphabet of Your URL Bar
Chances are, your web browser has an auto-complete type thing where you type in your URLs. I made up an internet game based on that. Type the alphabet into your URL bar, one letter at a time. Paste the FIRST thing that your browser suggests for each letter, unless it’s too embarrassing, in which case skip it or post how far down you have to go before something’s not too embarrassing. Here’s mine:
A http://www.wireless.att.com/
B http://bloomington.craigslist.org/mis/
D http://www.tumblr.com/dashboard
F http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosierillusion/
H is embarrassing, I’ll skip H. 2nd in line was http://www.last.fm/music/Homecomings
J I’ll skip J too. I had to go eight spots down to get this: http://www.fakesteve.net/
M I’ll skip M. All sorts of weirdness until six down, gave me this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q9CJarf3iA
N Gonna skip my first N too. Luckily, second was this: http://www.nytimes.com/ I am a good white person.
P http://pitstopmusicmarathon.com/pit_stop/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=6
Q http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4798523/East_West_Quantum_Leap_RA
R http://rjdj.me/music/Mike%20Dixon/
T http://www.tumblr.com/dashboard
W http://westernswing78.blogspot.com/
X http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY8Wi7XRXCA
Z http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZWrVQTlonc#movie_player
4 skips out of the whole alphabet, that’s not too bad. This is pretty revealing though. I’m basically a huge nerd.
I want to see what everyone else’s alphabets look like. No cheating, just skip if it’s something you don’t want to post, or list your alternates (but you have to admit it was an alternate).

Warm Morning.
A song I recorded yesterday morning. It was actually kind of the opposite of warm around the house, so I decided to name the file "warm morning" in hopes that looking at that title and being in that mindset would make the song have a warming effect.

Cheese and Crackers
A funny little ditty from the family reunion recording session we did a few days back. It’s Mark Rice on drums, Greg Dixon on guitar, Mike Bridavsky on bass, Allison Corn on cowbell, and I played the shaker and then did a pedal steel overdub. I want someone to use this on TV or something. $$$ ;-)

Here's to an explosive night on earth! May it always feel this young and limitless. I hope to always live with the gift of fascination.

My Dad's Book Dedication and a Minor Misprint
My dear dad recently published a book in Brazil.
This time he dedicated it to me and my mom.
But there was a small misprint.
The dedication reads "To Barbara and our Michel."
"Michel" isn't the Portuguese way of spelling Michael or anything. It's just a typo.
Or it's my dad's way of getting me to think that I got a book dedication when the book is actually for Mom and my dad's friend named Michel (although I am not aware of such a person).
But seriously though, I am very proud of my dad. In case you're wondering, this book is about The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas, a novel written by Brazil's most distinguished author, Machado de Assis. The title of my dad's book means "The Rattle of Brás Cubas." Like a baby's rattle.
Someday (although I might have to save this one for the afterlife) I will first read The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas and then see what my dad wrote about it in his book. I'll have to read both of these books slowly and with the help of a dictionary, as my Portuguese is not what it once was. And even when it once was, it probably wasn't enough to read heavy stuff like this.
On the back cover, the last line, centered, says this:
"The questions are worth more than the answers."
I love my dad!
